Web Standards
Claireification.com was written to XHTML Transitional 1.0 Standards. XHTML is eXtensible Hyper Text Markup Language and is the current standard markup language. Transitional still allows some HTML 4.0 attributes, and is the most widely used.
Usability
I have implemented some key principles of web design to make my site more usable.
The layout is consistent on all pages.This site uses the same wireframe, and csimilar content is generally in the same place page by page.
Heirarchy was key in my design. With the use of font-size and color I appropriately organized the content of my site. Because the pictures are the most important part of this site, they are the largest.
My navigation toolbar looks and acts like a navigation toolbar. The links may not be underlined and bright blue, but because of the proximity, and the fact that they change color when the cursor hovers, the user will easily associate the navigation bar for what it is.
Users can't get lost. Because each page is clearly titled, and the navigation (both in the header and in the footer) are consistant, the user cannot get lost in my site.
SEO
To encourage higher rankings for my site in search engines, I have utilized key terms such as "Graphic Design," "Claire Dyer," and "Claireification.com" in nearly every alt tag and title tags.
ROI
Simply put, I want people to visit my site. My goal from the begining for this site was for it to be a platform where I could show future employers my work.
In order to do this they need to find it. Obviously I can tell them what the URL for my site is. However, I may not know everyone who wants to visit my site, so these people they will search for it. My site will come up on the Google search engine since I utilized some techniques previously mentioned in my SEO.
Once users get here, I want them to stay and look around. I hope the soft color and interesting layout will be enticing to the user. I also hope that the heirarchy and navigatability I utilized will encourage them to browse my work.
Finally, because I used valid XHTML their browser will view my site how it was intended.
